The wedding of Estefania (“Fanny”) Aldaba Lim and Luis Hidalgo Lim was held here at the Sacred Heart Shrine in 1944. As the wedding took place, some guests prepared to go on a secret mission to the Philippines in the middle of World War II, according to Nick Joaquin’s biography of Dr. Lim. Dr. Lim came to the U.S. to obtain a PhD in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She later served as the Secretary of Social Services and Development, the first female cabinet member of the Philippines. She was the first clinical psychologist in the Philippines and founding President of Museo Pambata.
