The new POPDC logo is designed by Monica Tinio Bascon. This was inspired by POPDC’s original logo which was a mashup of two photographs from Wikimedia Commons (the Rizal Monument and the Washington Monument).
In the early 1900s, American architect Daniel Burnham and the US colonial administration in the Philippines designed a rectangular park to serve as the centerpiece of their Manila plan, featuring a monument on one end and a legislative building at the other end, like the National Mall. Some observers think that the Rizal Monument, a bronze sculpture in honor of National Hero Jose Rizal with an obelisk in the background, resembles the Washington Monument.
